We know that we are our best selves when we are well rested, mentally centred and emotionally grounded. When we look better, we feel better; it starts from the inside out. Being healthy in all ways, helps us be the best we can be every day.

Being well rested means getting the sleep your body requires, and achieving deep sleep each night. It might mean a new mattress that contours your body, a better pillow, breathing exercises before bed or a new gym workout to ensure you are using up your energy during the day so you can relax and sleep at night.

Being mentally centred might involve yoga, meditation, breathing exercises, a spa treatment or a new gym workout to keep you focused on living healthy. Being emotionally grounded could involve mediation, journaling, counselling, carving out time in your schedule for you alone or reading a book to better understand how we relate to co-workers, family and friends.

It can be tough to find time for you amongst all that you do for family, friends and your job. Taking a grown-up time out at a spa for an hour, afternoon or even a whole day is a great way to get refreshed and re-energized. Farmer’s Market

The Farmer’s Market concept originated over 200 years ago, but the tradition had declined during the 70’s when shopping malls grew in popularity and convenience was king. Today Farmer’s Markets are popping up all over as more people want whole foods from local sources, with less packaging, processing and preservatives.

There are markets all across Canada in cities of all sizes, check your local chamber of commerce to find one near you.  Most outdoor markets are open from May to October, and indoor markets can be open all year round. Spicy Spaghetti Squash


  • 1 small spaghetti squash, halved and seeded
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, minced
  • 12 ounces ground white meat turkey
  • 2 cups crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons red wine
  • 2 teaspoons minced fresh oregano or one teaspoon dried
  • 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Place each squash half cut side down on a cookie sheet and bake uncovered for about 45 to 60 minutes or until a fork goes easily into the shell. Allow to cool and scoop out the strands of squash with a large spoon and set aside.
  3. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium high heat. Add the onion, garlic and scallions and sauté for 2 minutes. Add the turkey and cook for 4 minutes. Add the tomatoes and wine and bring to a boil, lower the heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Add the oregano, red pepper flakes and parsley; simmer for 5 minutes. If the squash has cooled too much, reheat it in the microwave, covered for 2 to 3 minutes. Top the squash with the sauce and serve.
